ACC Atlanta

Here we are in the grand old southern city of Atlanta for ACC Atlanta.  It’s the first day of three, and thus far the show has gone slightly better than I expected.  Not that I had any major expectations, but the crowd has been fairly good, and we have been well received.

I’m happy with the look of the booth, though I will admit I find myself missing the larger booth we had in Baltimore.

In some ways this 10′ x 10′ feels more enclosed after having the 20′ x 5′, but we’ve been told by many visitors that it feels very inviting and open, so that’s good.

Besides, how else am I supposed to pass the idle time at shows other than finding the smallest things to obsess over?

I suppose I could work on my memoirs…if only I were an interesting read.  I think if I were a TV series I’d have to cancel myself.

ACC Baltimore

We just returned from the American Craft Council show in Baltimore, and overall it was a very good show for us.  Thought I’d drop you a few photos of the new booth.

The Handmade Market is today

Happy day before Easter, er, Easter eve, night morning before…oh whatever, you get the idea.  Normally, I would still be asleep, so I’m not exactly coherent, but I just wanted to drop a quick reminder about the Handmade Market today in Raleigh.  If you’re in the area, it’d be swell to see you there.

Winter Show Season And Other Things

Yes I know we are technically heading into Spring, but I thought it might be a nice time for some updates-especially considering how much has gone on. We had a really successful fall show season which was great, but it left me with quite a dilemma…I had a number of upcoming shows scheduled, but literally almost no new work for them. So, the day after Christmas I set to work at a frantic pace; the advantage to working like that was that I had little time to over think and had to create more on impulse. As a result, I feel my imagery became more bold, and in some ways more abstract, but I’m quite happy with where its heading. I’ve also begun working with a number of new elements which I feel has given the work more punch.

First some images of some of the new work:

The piece “GXM” I’m really excited about because it was made using my new large format Epson printer.

The first show of the season was ARTfest Ft. Myers in Ft. Myers, Florida.  I can say that aside from being a nice location, there wasn’t much else about the show to rave about.  For us, it was a terrible show in terms of sales, but most everyone around us seemed to be doing well.  Go figure.

Otherwise we had a very nice time-

Jeremia was making new friends as always

and the downtown area of Ft. Myers was particularly beautiful.  I especially like this great piece of public art outside of the art museum there, and the way it reflects light and casts shadows.

I’ll have to continue this in the next post, Kristina and Jeremia are beckoning me to go with them for a trip to Home Depot, so who am I to argue.  I practically keep the place in business.

Artfest Ft. Myers 2010

Just got a notice about Artfest  Ft. Myers 2010 in the mail-

I checked out the website and application on line, and I have to say that this is probably one of the best put together shows I have seen in a while.  They seem to really be interested in the comfort and success of the participating artists, which is often not the case with many shows.  It is in Florida, so I’m not sure how that is going to work for us with a then 10 month old, but I’m going to apply anyway because it looks to good to pass up.

The application deadline is Sept. 16, and I encourage you to check it out if you are doing the show circuit.  If you live in the area, maybe we’ll see you in February!

Bele Chere

All I can say is ….Whew!  2 shows in 2 weeks across the state was certainly more fun than any one person should be allowed to have.  Both The Big Crafty and Bele Chere were good shows, but with all of the work involved, especially showing in the warmth of July, I don’t know if I’ll have the energy to do that again.  At least not back to back.  At Bele Chere, I did manage to con the judges into giving me a 3rd place ribbon in the arts section-

and ribbons are always good (even better when attached to money)- they almost always help when applying to future shows.  Of course, you never really know what the judges are looking for, just a matter of opinion I guess.

It’s 7 weeks until Centerfest, my next big show, so I think I’ll take a few days off to recover.  May be a good time for Jeremia, Kristina, and I to hit the pool.
